The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom, met with the Fiocruz delegation attending the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland, this Thursday (May 22). Among other topics, Moreira also shared with the WHO Director-General Fiocruz’s expectations for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will take place in November in Belém, Pará, Brazil. Fiocruz will be actively participating in the summit, contributing to discussions on climate change and its relationship with health, following the One Health approach.

Recognized worldwide for his leadership at the WHO, Tedros once again emphasized the importance of Fiocruz for Global Health during the meeting. On Monday (May 19), the Foundation was highlighted in the Director-General’s opening speech at the Assembly. He praised the institution’s work—Fiocruz was the only organization mentioned by name. “I thank Fiocruz for the partnership and extend my warm congratulations on its 125th anniversary,” said Tedros.

In addition, the Foundation is involved in several WHO initiatives, including the International Surveillance Network and the Epidemic Intelligence Hub, based in Gerlin.
