Fiocruz launches its space at TGHN

The partnership has established the reduction of preventable maternal deaths to zero by 2030 as a goal in the African and Latin American countries involved. The cooperation also plans to implement a Reference Center for Maternal Health of the ICPD at Fiocruz. The results and commitments of the meeting will be taken to the Nairobi Summit, that will discuss de 25 years of the Internacional Conference on Population and Development.

Fiocruz has mapped the impact of fires on children’s health in the Amazon region. The survey concluded that in the areas most affected by the fire, the number of children hospitalized with respiratory problems doubled. This resulted in an additional expense of more than R$ 1.5 million faced by the Brazilian Public Health System (SUS).

The action will be coordinated by the Fiocruz Brazilian Human Milk Bank Network, which is considered an international reference. Together, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa represent 42% of the world population, that will benefit from an important strategy for reducing infant deaths.
