Concern over the situation of some 900 million people living without clean water has led the United Nations to declare, in July 2010, that access to water and sanitary sewage is an essential human right. At the time, a resolution supported by 122 countries, including Brazil, included a series of important conditions to fulfil this right, emphasizing that it was necessary to go beyond infrastructure. A Fiocruz está organizando uma força tarefa para apoiar o Ministério da Saúde em ações de ajuda humanitária para as vítimas do ciclone Idai, que atingiu Moçambique no dia 14 de março. Mais de 1,85 milhão de pessoas foram afetadas pelos fortes ventos e chuvas. The disease is one of the largest causes of deaths in the country, which faces one of the highest incidence rates in the world, with an estimated 498 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a total of 6,500 cases and 1,400 deaths in 2017. Fiocruz have organized a task force in support of the Ministry of Health to provide humanitarian aid for the victims of cyclone Idai, which struck Mozambique on March 14. More than 1.85 million people were affected by the strong winds and rains. A new study confirms the World Mosquito Program’s (WMP) Wolbachia method limits transmission of the yellow fever virus in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, reducing the threat of urban outbreaks of the disease. They are only 30% of the world's scientists and have received only 3% of Nobel Prize nominations in the scientific fields. In Brazil, only 14% of the members of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences are women.
