An unprecedented achievement in world science. In just 15 days, a rotating genetic sequencing project led by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) generated 126 complete virus genomes responsible for large outbreaks in the country, including 69 of dengue, 34 of chikungunya and 23 of zika. The samples came from infected patients in the Central-West region of the country. Concern over the situation of some 900 million people living without clean water has led the United Nations to declare, in July 2010, that access to water and sanitary sewage is an essential human right. Mais de 1,85 milhão de pessoas foram afetadas pelos fortes ventos e chuvas. O balanço de vítimas pode aumentar à medida que as equipes de resgate se preparam para conter surtos de doenças, como malária e cólera. The disease is one of the largest causes of deaths in the country, which faces one of the highest incidence rates in the world, with an estimated 498 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a total of 6,500 cases and 1,400 deaths in 2017. In order to face this challenge, the Government of the Special Administrative Region of Oé-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA) requested technical support from Fiocruz to prepare an Action Plan to eliminate tuberculosis in the region by 2035.
