Brazil and France partnership monitor diseases in the Amazon border

The International Mixed Lab (LMI Sentinel) will work to fight vector-borne diseases in border regions. Initially, it will monitor malaria in Brazil-French Guiana border, using field research, geoprocessing, remote sensing and information technology. The LMI is an initiative of the French Research Institute for Development (IRD) together with Fiocruz and University of Brasilia.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences and Fiocruz sign a cooperation term

This is the third Memorandum of Understanding signed between Fiocruz and Chinese scientific institutions, and the first one entered into directly with the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It represents another step in cooperation between these two developing countries.

The Global Sustainable Technology and Innovation Conference series, G-STIC, will take place in Brussels, in November, and it will have for the first time Fiocruz as one of the cohosts and responsible for the thematic group of Health.
New report assesses 2030 health targets in Brazil
The nine targets part of SDG 3 (Health and Well Being) were analyzed on a new report that demonstrates the inequalities among Brazilian regions. Mother mortality is an example of this scenario. The Brazilian average is below the minimum recommended in SDGs, but in the North and Northeast regions are still above the target.
Study reveals zika virus entry routes in Brazil
According to the study, the zika virus, originally from French Polynesia, did not come directly to Brazil. Before, it migrated to Oceania, then to Easter Island - from where he went to the Central American and Caribbean region - and then arrived in Brazil at the end of 2013.
Dengue during pregnancy can cause congenital brain defects in babies
Using large-volume data studies, scientists found out that the chances of a neurological malformation in the child was 50% higher compared to those mothers who did not have dengue fever.
The National Museum: Fiocruz express solidarity after the tragic fire
The oldest scientific institution of Brazil caught fire on September 2nd. The fire destroyed a great part of the 200 years old museum collection.
PAHO publishes recommendations to reduce inequalities
The recommendations are part of the Executive Summary of the Commission on Equity and Health Inequalities in the Americas, which had Fiocruz former president and current coordinator of Fiocruz Global Health Center, Paulo Buss, as one of its members.
Fiocruz was redesignated as PAHO Collaborating Center for Public Health and the Environment
The Foundation became a Collaborating Center (CC) in 2010 and this is its redesignation wil be valid until 2022. Under the new designation, the CC should place emphasis on the 2030 Agenda.
